DIF VIRTUAL LEARNING!

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

PROGRAM FEATURES

Traditionally, we’ve run programming for elementary and middle schools in the Chicagoland area. In recognition that safety demands social distancing, we have launched our virtual learning classes!

While this is an adjustment, it’s also an exciting opportunity: for the first time, we are able to offer programming to other cities, states, and even countries.

Our DIF Virtual Classroom has two options: 12 sessions over 6 weeks or 6 sessions over three weeks. This program will build on itself; each class will expand on the previous class so students are encouraged to "attend" every session. Given the sequential nature, this program will run with the same teacher and student group for its entirety.

Personalized Learning Program

The PPL Program provides 10 one-on-one sessions (10 hours) between one student and one teacher. This program is entirely customized tutoring based on the needs of the individual child. Parents fill out a brief survey that highlights focus areas for the student and then Debate it Forward creates a custom curriculum to reinforce these skills in the best way for the particular student.

Results

Our Virtual Learning programs have been incredibly successful. Check out some of our favorite statistics:

  • We have a 95% retention rate among our programs

  • Parents on average rated it a 9.1/10

  • The modal score of student rating was 10/10

One parent said, "The activities are just really fun AND educational. It has been such a treasure during this time to hear [Max] laughing and chattering. It's helped me relax and concentrate on my work to know that he's well taken-care of. Fantastic. Small class size is key on Zoom. I've noticed that in the larger class groups from his online schooling, he doesn't talk nearly as much..."

Our DIF Private Group Classes are offered to a set of students who want to take programming together. The class will be closed to the public and will only include students from the particular group. We offer these in 2, 6, or 12 group classes, depending on group choice.

NOW ANNOUNCING...VIRTUAL CAMP!

We're excited to offer virtual camp for the 2020 summer!

Our virtual camps will closely resemble our in-person camps utilizing our experiential debate curriculum. Everyday, there will be a specific debate topic; we'll begin by embarking on an exciting virtual field trip where students can gain field experience into the daily topic.  After our riveting field trip, we focus on building our core debate skills through games and activities. We end our day tying together our topic research and our debate skills by engaging in formal debates where students utilize their field trip research as evidence for their arguments. In the past, we've explored topics like media censorship (and a trip to the WGN news station), space colonization (a trip to the planetarium) and more.

A typical day may look like this (please note we offer shortened versions for younger campers):

9:00-9:20 – Icebreakers and introduction to the daily debate topic

9:20-9:45 – Staff led virtual tour of trip

9:45-9:55 – Student choice: Movement break, Off-screen break, game

9:55-10:35 – DIF games and activities

10:35-10:45 – Student choice: Movement break, Off-screen break, game

10:45-11:00 – Team debate prep

11:00-11:25 – Debate round

11:25-11:30 – Daily wrap up
