Our Winter Middles programs address all the skills we aim to develop in young learners: perspective-taking, ethics, argument generation, public speaking, and basic research. We’ll feature units like our Model United Nations games where kids can learn about and practice diplomacy, compromise making, and live debate. We’ll also take on challenging, nuanced issues like DNA modification, and we’ll teach your kiddo how to create curious questions - the basis for research. Kids will practice using values to support their arguments, develop ethical solutions to problems, and differentiate between reliable and unreliable sources and research methods. We’ll play the ever-popular “This Just In” game where your kiddo will be tasked with assuming the role of fake news reporter asked to cover an absurdly fictitious global event. Your child will develop fake evidence to round out their story, and then present the breaking news in a prime time news feature! And finally, we’ll practice engaging in different forms of advocacy for real-world problems and learn about actual current events through our research briefs. We’ll then use our data to form our opinions and test them in lively but non-threatening debate. Through everything we do this winter, we’ll help your child build confidence and begin to develop different ways to advocate for age-appropriate problems.
Our DiF Multi-Week programs are a great way to expose your kids to more children, new ideas, and have a blast in the process. And the best part - you’ll notice the DiF-ference we make together.
